Three bricklayers were building a wall.        三个泥瓦工在砌一堵墙。

 A philosopher asked: “What are you doing?”   一位哲人问：“你们在干什么？”

The first replied: “Building a wall.”           第一个人回答：“我们在砌墙。”

The second replied: “Putting up a building.”  第二个人回答：“我们在盖一幢楼。”

The third replied: “We are building our home.” 第三个人回答：“我们在建设家园。”

The philosopher clapped the third man on the shoulder and said: “You will be fortunate in the future.”

哲人听了，拍了拍第三个人的肩头说：“今后，你将是幸运的。”

Many years later the first bricklayer was still a bricklayer.

许多年之后，第一个人仍然是泥瓦工。

The second had become an engineer and the third was the boss of the other two.

第二个人成了工程师。第三个人成了前两个人的老板。

All three possessed the attitude of Zen joy.

这第三个人所拥有的，就是禅悦心态。
