After being sick the two masters continued on their journey.

A little later they ran into a rainstorm and splashed their way to shelter.

不多久，他们遇上了暴雨，两人跌跌撞撞地跑，找躲雨的地方。

They discovered a large earthen structure by the road, rather like the kilns used by the hill people, and rushed inside.

后来发现路边有着一个圆墩墩的大土龛，像是山里人烧窑的窑洞。两人慌忙间冲了进去。

Though the cave, with spiders’ webs at its entrance, was rather dilapidated, they felt that finding shelter from the rain was a blessing in the midst of misfortune.

虽然感到这个窑洞很破旧，洞的入口缠着很多蜘蛛网，但狂风暴雨里，能找到一个地方躲雨，已经是不幸中的万幸了。

They slept soundly through the night.

那天晚上，他们舒舒坦坦地地睡了一夜。

At dawn next morning they were shocked to find that the shelter was not a cave but a huge tomb filled with white bones.

第二天天亮的时候，他们又吃了一惊，他们发现原来这个地方根本不是窑洞，而是一个塞满了白骨的巨大的古坟。

They were at once filled with fear and foreboding and wanted to leave.

他们顿时感到恐怖阴森，想离开这里。

The wind and rain continued, there was no way that they could leave and they had to spend another night in the tomb.

但狂风骤雨，就是不停，他们实在没法离开，只好留在这个大坟里，在这里又住了一晚。

This time, they did not sleep as well as they had done the previous night.

这天晚上，他们就不像前一天晚上那样睡得安稳了。

They seemed to hear the shrieking of ghosts and saw countless apparitions. Demons howled everywhere.

他们总是觉得鬼声凄厉，眼前出现了无数的幻影，到处是鬼哭狼嚎。

They spent an uncomfortable night tossing and turning.

俩人在辗转不安中熬过了一个晚上。

On the third morning as the warm sunshine flooded into the cave, Wonhyo attained a complete realization of the principle that lay behind “All phenomena are born of the mind and extinguished by the mind.”

第三天，当阳光灿烂，照进古坟中的时候，元晓彻底领悟到了“心生则种种法生，心灭则种种法灭”的道理——

It was the mind that had changed, not the external world.

外在的境界并没有变，改变的是自己的心灵。

When the mind was calm, sleep was sound; when it was agitated, sleep was disturbed.

心中坦荡，就睡得香甜；心中不安，就辗转难眠。

After these two events, Wonhyo achieved a sudden flash of enlightenment. He had come to an understanding of the basic spirit of Zen and had realized the secrets of life.

经历了这两件事以后，元晓豁然开悟。他已经领悟到了禅学的精髓要义，悟出了人生的秘密了。

 There was no longer any need to visit the venerable monks of China and he returned to Silla and became one of the founders of Buddhism in Korea.

他觉得没有必要继续到中国参访高僧了，就返回了新罗，终于成为朝鲜佛教史上的一位开创性的人物。
